Homework Five
The final due date for this assignment is January 14th (2016), 11:59 PM HOL Time. Please send all assignments to holcharmsclass[at]gmail.com (replace the [at] with the @ symbol!) with the subject line "HW5 - [Your HOL name]". So if I were sending mine in, it would say "HW5 - Ivelisse Ada" in the subject line. Please also include your name, house, and HOL ID at the top of your e-mail. Aly and I need this info to give you your hard-earned points, so double check that it's there! If you have any questions or need help with anything, please don't hesitate to send me a HOL message (my ID is iv823). I am always happy to help!
Since you don't have an extra credit option this month, and you do have an exam, you can choose any of the options below to get your 30 points.
A PICTURE IS WORTH 1000 WORDS (and 30 points!)
Draw or create a graphic of something important from the lesson, such as some form of representation of a charm or it's casting, or an inventor of one of the charms we've discussed. Please give me a brief (1 or 2 sentence at most) explanation of what is in your graphic.
CLASS CHARMS COMPENDIUM (30 points)
Charms inventing is very dangerous, and as such, we won't be doing any practical spell-inventing in this class. However, we can begin developing theoretical possibilities! Please create 5 possible new charms that fit under the category duelling or destruction. Each charm is worth 6 points, so please tell me the name and incantation for the charm, the wand movement, and a few things about the charm's effect/intended use. Post your potential charms to the class forum under the thread Class Charms Compendium. Please make sure you write "Extra Credit 5 - Duelling and Destruction" in bold at the top of your post. It might also be in your best interest to look at how charms are commonly named, but you don't have to follow this convention if you don't want to.
EVENLY MATCHED (3o points)
An interesting thing can happen when two wands with the same core go head to head in a duel... complete this puzzle and upload a screenshot of the image to a photo-hosting site like Photobucket or Tinypic, and send me the direct link only. Please also mention what this interesting duelling phenomena is called.
Puzzle is HERE.
GOOD HEAVENS, WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE TIME? (30 points - 3 points each)
It's time to duel! Or rather, it's time to test your duelling knowledge. Below, I am going to list 10 different destructive spells or threats to your well-being, and I want you to tell me what the best spell for blocking or negating it is. Tell me the name of the charm (if there is one), the incantation for it (if there is one), and why you chose it. Be forewarned - this will require a bit of referring back to lesson 4 or a bit of extra research! It might ease your mind to know that for many of these, there is no right or wrong answer. Your reasoning just needs to make sense or be plausible.
1. Aguamenti
2. Avis
3. Tarantellegra
4. Incendio
5. Stupefy
6. Obscuro
7. Diffindo
8. Rictusempra
9. A Dementor attack
10. A Boggart attack
